Overview

I have never seen as much greenery in Boracay Island as I did here at Mandala Spa & Villas. The gorgeous landscaped garden is not that of fancy ornamental plants nor of artificial structures, but of perennial trees that have been grown and cultivated for years to showcase the real beauty of Nature.

One MGM Boracay Resort Hotel is one of the most luxurious and biggest resorts on the island. You can expect a breathtaking setting no less than this resort’s former name– Paradise Garden. This 1.5-hectare landscaped garden offers serenity and breathing space for all its guests.

The coolest thing about staying in this resort is being it a peaceful tropical garden (with large swimming pools and artificial waterfalls) so close to the beach you can almost smell the breeze. See our comments on the hotel location below.

There are pros and cons to the location of this resort. If you are a party animal and you prefer to have all the convenience within your backyard, this hotel may not be for you. However, if you prefer peace and solitude away from the crowd noise and chaos of live bands, this is one of the perfect retreats.

One MGM is also ideal for big groups holding seminars / conferences as it is not only pretty laid back and quiet, but it also has a decent-size function hall that can be used for such activities. Oh… and although this restaurant is famous for their Italian dishes, I keep on coming back here for something from New York. I love their NY Cheesecake. The daily complimentary breakfast buffet for two is also served here.

In the evening, you can chill and dine at the beach, on their very Filipino Bucos Bar and Grill. Seafood are offered in abundance while a live band plays reggae, pop, or island music to complete the diner’s night out.

Spa:

Conclusion:

The Sun Village Central Beachfront Resort (or commonly known in Boracay as Sun Village Central) is located at Station 2 along the White Beach Path. It is one of the most accessible, easy to find, and centrally located resorts.

Bands are common attractions along the White Beach at night (which is cool!) and there are plenty of eating places surrounding the resort. Sun Central also have their own Mongolian Grill, and all-you-can-eat buffet that costs around 250 to 290 PHP (6 to 7 USD) per person (Reed mongolian buffet at Sun Village Central review here). Aside from this authentic Asian food, they also offer affordable food and beverages in the restaurant. Although the menu is quite limited, the food quality is fair for the price. If you are a resort guest, just let the waiters know to avail special discounts.

Aside from the restaurants around, Sun Central have their own massage / spa services too. Safety deposit boxes are also available.

My family stayed there twice for 4 days and 3 nights each time and the accommodation was great both times. It has also fair prices for a beach front resort, please refer to room rates below:

• Standard rooms (3): ~90 USD per night
• Deluxe rooms(3): ~100 USD per night
• Deluxe Oceanview room(1): ~110 USD per night
• VIP Oceanview room (1): ~130 USD per night

Usually, at low season, they give 10% to 20% off their rates depending on the room.

If you want a second home in Boracay, “Tanawin Luxury Apartments” is the place to be. Of course, as their name suggests, Tanawin is NOT a hotel or resort type of accommodation where you get a single room with a bathroom and a couch.

Tanawin has several apartments that are complete with living room, dining room, kitchen (complete with utensils & appliances), bedroom, and a balcony with a stunning view. If you opt for the deluxe rooms (single or double), then you get a Jacuzzi.

The Staff. The personnel and staff are very friendly and accommodating. Should you need anything, all you have to do is ask and they’ll be glad to help you out.

Shuttle. Although Tanawin is located on a hillside, they have a shuttle service that leaves every 2 hours which drops off and picks up guests at the Boracay Budget Mart (located at D’Mall, Station 2).

Tanawin is far from the hustle and bustle of Stations 1 to 3, so it’s ultimately the perfect choice to relax, reflect and rejuvenate one’s body and soul.

Overview:

One of the cheapest Beach Front hotels in Boracay, Alice in Wonderland is a 3-storey hotel that offers air conditioned rooms for only 60 to 70 USD per night.

I have stayed at this hotel for about 3 to 4 times (as I am a frequent visitor of Boracay). You may not be able to see the beach from your window or balcony, but it is just about 30 steps away. That’s good enough for my 6o bucks.  Good value for the money.

This hotel may not have a swimming pool or a gym, but for the price of 60 to 70 bucks a night at Boracay beachfront, it’s pretty well worth it.

• They have safety deposit box at the reception area.
• Free wireless internet (ask for the password at the reception)

• Refrigerator with water, beer, softdrinks at affordable prices

Restaurants:

They have a breakfast area where you can order cheap food for about 135 pesos (4 USD) more or less. Coffee is about 30 PHP per cup (instant coffee), they do not serve brewed coffee.

Mess Hall / Breakfast Area

Alice in Wonderland is also surrounded by restaurants (like the Spanish Restaurant beside the Police Station, all-you-can-eat places, Mongolian Buffet places, etc). If you don’t feel like eating out, there’s a convenience store right across the street from the hotel.

Important Tips:

• Make sure you ask for more towels and/or bed linens.
• Set the airconditioner at a higher temperature before bedtime so you wont get too cold. They don’t give too many linens (if you need more, just call downstairs at the reception area).
• Remind them at the reception that you want a working water heater (I just usually ask this at every hotel that I stay at :) …
• If you are scared of dogs, then this is not a place for you to stay at. They have 2 friendly Golden Retrievers (who sleep all the time and really don’t mind people) at the lobby.

Aside from enjoying the luxury of being at the beach front, guests are Boracay Regency are also entitled to the use of their big swimming pool with bar, gym and wellness center, business center (with desktop computers & internet, printers, and photocopiers you can avail of), convention center, foreign currency exchange booth, babysitting services, spa, and minishop (where you can buy sunscreens, tanning lotion, swim wear, and souvenirs). Their minishop costs about twice or more the prices of same products sold on the nearby convenience stores. I bought a “cheap brand” of aloe once and it cost me almost 20 bucks.

Sea Breeze Cafe, Christina’s, Zhu Asian Cuisine, Regency Food Plaza, MO2 Wave Bar, Gazebo Grill, Garden Pool Bar, and Zhu Asian Cuisine. They are a little bit more expensive than surrounding restaurants but when you are staying in Boracay Regency, the are very convenient.
